Y.O.U. Opens Two New Locations
Y.O.U. is growing! We now have four offices to call home; Y.O.U. – Sterling (1255 Euclid Avenue); Y.O.U. - United Way (1361 Euclid Ave); YRC (1910 Carnegie Avenue); and Y.O.U. - Summer Youth Employment at the Post Office Plaza. The two newest offices house the Young Adult Resource Center at Ohio Means Jobs and the Day One and ProPath programs.
The Young Adult Resource Center at Ohio Means Jobs (YRC) recently moved out of their old offices and into a new space on Carnegie. The new space will allow YRC staff and visitors to take greater advantage of the services offered. The new location will feature more classroom space, more resources like computers, and easier parking.
The YRC is a downtown drop-in center for 14-24 year-olds who are in need of employment, career planning assistance, case management and supportive services. Operated on behalf of Ohio Means Jobs – Cleveland-Cuyahoga County in collaboration with Towards Employment, young adults are connected to a vast array of services including job readiness training and credentialing programs.
Y.O.U. also opened a new office in the Sterling building. These offices will be the home of the Day One and ProPath Programs. Y.O.U. is excited to bring more facilities to continue our mission of serving teens and young adults. The training and case management space will allow us to deliver the services that our clients, our partners, and our funders know they can count on.
The Day One program is designed for young adults 18-24 who have graduated high school, are not enrolled in college, and are under- or unemployed. Participants receive credential training and enter a career pathway with a paid internship. Current career pathways include commercial driver, computer technician, hospital nursing assistant, phlebotomy technician, and water treatment plant operator. The ProPath Internship program Places 10th – 12th graders with employer/mentors in 4-8 week internships that align with career pathways and allows them to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to a professional work environment.
A 2017 Dominion Community Impact Award winner, ProPath is aligned with the Irvine Foundation’s Gold Standard for Effective Internships and is open to teens in all schools throughout Cuyahoga County.
One thing is sure, no matter which of the four locations you visit, Y.O.U. will continue to work to ensure that every young person is ready to pursue a path to economic self-sufficiency through mentoring, workforce preparation, career exploration, and work experiences that lead to that important first job and post-secondary success or training.
