Payment and Payroll for Summer Jobs at Y.O.U.

How much does it pay?

  • Y.O.U. work experience participants are paid by the hour for hours worked. The rate is $13.50 per hour.  Youth are able to work between 20 and 25 hours per week for 6 weeks.

Do I get paid for holidays?

  • No. Y.O.U. asks that worksites do not schedule youth to work on Holidays.

  • Youth will only be paid for the hours actually worked.

When do I get paid?

  • If you are hired for a work experience, you will be on a bi-weekly pay schedule.

  • Every other Friday is pay day.

  • The first pay day is Friday, June 28th.

Do I have to pay taxes?

  • Yes. Every paycheck will have taxes deducted.

Am I required to have a bank account if I am selected to participate in the program?

  • No. It is not a requirement to have a bank account.

  • However, having one is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED because Y.O.U. does not issue paper checks.  All participants are paid by Direct Deposit.

    • A bank account is the best way to ensure that your money is safe, and it is also the smartest way to save your money.

  • We will try to have local Banking Partners at Orientation sessions who will help participants who are at least 16 years-old schedule an appointment to set up a bank account that can be used for your summer job and beyond. That Banking Partner will then share your Direct Deposit information with our Payroll Team.

  • If you do not provide bank account information by Orientation, you will receive a pay card from Y.O.U. on your first pay date.

How do I provide my bank/direct deposit information?

  • If you already have a bank account, you will need to bring your direct deposit information to your assigned Orientation session.

  • If you don’t have a bank account, participants, who are 16 and older, will likely have the opportunity to work with a local Banking Partner who is onsite to schedule an appointment to open a bank account. That Banking Partner will then share your Direct Deposit information with our Payroll Team.

  • Y.O.U. needs a Direct Deposit form from the bank OR a voided check that includes your Name, Bank Account Number and the Routing Number to set up direct deposit.

    • Y.O.U. will not accept handwritten bank information.

    • Y.O.U. will not accept account information that does not include the participant’s name.

  • Y.O.U. will only accept Non-Custodial accounts for this program.

    • Many banks do not offer this option for minors, so you will have to ask.

    • If you submit bank information that includes a parent, Y.O.U. will safely, securely discard that direct deposit information and will issue a pay card on your first pay date.

  • Direct deposit information will be accepted at the discretion of Y.O.U. To ensure the safety of participant payments Y.O.U. will not accept direct deposit for digital personal finance platforms, such as CashApp or Venmo, as accounts housed on these platforms may not be protected by FDIC insurance.

My Parent has a bank account can I have my paycheck deposited into their account?

  • No. Y.O.U. will only deposit your earnings into an account with your name on it, not one in your parent’s name.

  • If we do not have a bank account on file, under your name, a pay card will be issued on the first pay date.

Can my paycheck be direct deposited if I had a savings account last year?

  •  If you had an account last year, you will need to verify that the account is still active. To do so:

    • Provide your bank with the account number or your social security number and they will let you know if the account is still active.

    • If your account is still active you should request a printout from your bank with your name, the routing number and the account number. Bring it with you to your eligibility determination or orientation session.

Will Y.O.U. set up a bank account for me if I am selected to be in the program?

  • No. Unfortunately, due to the many steps and requirements, we do not have the ability to set up bank accounts.

  • We encourage those who are selected for the program to open an account at a bank of their choice and provide Y.O.U with the account information.

We will try to have local Banking Partners at Orientation sessions who will help participants who are at least 16 years-old schedule an appointment to set up a bank account that can be used for your summer job and beyond. That Banking Partner will then share your Direct Deposit information with our Payroll Team.

If I worked for Y.O.U. last year can I use the pay card I had last year?

  • No. Y.O.U. issues new pay cards every calendar year.

  • If you worked for Y.O.U. last year, you will get a new pay card on the first pay date.
