OhioMeansJobs|CC Young Adult Resource Center re-envisions career exploration through Virtual Reality
Posted November 4, 2022
A few months ago, Transfr VR reached out to OhioMeansJobs|CC to share about their career exploration program seeking “to build new pathways from from classrooms to careers.” They offer “a virtual environment where trainees can experience a variety of well-paying jobs in a safe, supportive setting, under the expert guidance of our digital coach.” Transfr already works with other workforce development organizations all over the country including Miami, New York City, Los Angeles and even Athens, Ohio. The Young Adult Resource Center (YRC) was excited to join their ranks and offer virtual career exploration locally with a demo Oculus headset.
At the YRC, participants can opt for the VR module instead of the traditional ones. Using a VR headset, participants are able to try out basic simulations in different career fields like making an omelette, changing the oil in a car, or changing a fuse at the top of a solar tower.
Ron Scott, manager of the YRC, sees the potential in the new technology. He believes this is “something participants can do right away to get a feel for the jobs that are out there.”
