Celebrating Bright Futures at the 2024 Youth Career Olympics
Held on March 6 at the Huntington Convention Center, this year’s Youth Career Olympics was a resounding success. Attendees had the opportunity to see our future workforce in action, with the event showcasing the remarkable achievements of more than 100 bright, young individuals from schools across Northeast Ohio who participated in the Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates program.
A culmination of hard work and dedication throughout the school year, the Youth Career Olympics provided a platform for students to exhibit their business skills in a variety of team-based and solo competition events. Several of these students placed in categories such as the NCA Knowledge Bowl, financial literacy and career preparation. Let’s congratulate all of our student winners!
One standout was Glenville High School student Mikaulys, a first-generation immigrant from the Dominican Republic who took first place in the Prepared Speaking category with a truly inspirational speech. As she had shared, “When I came to the United States, I realized that work was everywhere—I didn’t have to look so hard anymore. But I was still lacking the skills and resources I needed.” Because of her hard work through the Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates program, she will be going on to compete at the National Career Olympics in St. Louis later this month. Good luck, Mikaulys!
Another key highlight was a special appearance from Kofi B., a two-time Emmy®-nominated musician and motivational speaker, who inspired our young participants with his words of wisdom. Much like our own students, he is a shining example of someone who has thrived in the face of adversity.
Through the Youth Career Olympics, more than 100 young individuals had the opportunity to explore meaningful job opportunities from 26 employers throughout Northeast Ohio. This allowed them to learn about available career paths and foster connections that will shape their professional journeys.
As we reflect on this year’s event, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our participating students and schools, as well as everyone who contributed to making the Youth Career Olympics a memorable and impactful experience. It truly served as a testament to the bright futures ahead for our youth.
