PEEKE intern lands prestigious scholarship to Ohio State University

Devin Suttles is a 2019 Y.O.U. Partnerships, Exploration, Experience, Knowledge, Excellence (PEEKE) intern who was recently named a recipient of the Morrill Excellence Scholarship at the Ohio State University. It is the university’s most prestigious diversity merit award and is awarded to only 40 recipients. Suttles completed an engineering internship at Rockwell Automation last year through our PEEKE Internship Program and was invited by his mentor to apply directly to Rockwell for a 2020 summer internship. He is a senior at Brush High School and wrote about his experience in our PEEKE Internship Program below.

“My experience at PEEKE was such a remarkable one. I was able to build my career network and hold conversations with many successful individuals that I aspire to become like. I learned how to code and use Python to program some of Rockwell Automation's products to test their efficiency. But most importantly, I learned more about myself, that I’m gravitating more toward in a future career as a Mechanical Engineer. I did all of this while meeting a group of amazing college interns who were always willing to help in any way possible. They still reach out and connect with me today. My PEEKE experience was one that I will never forget!

My PEEKE experience has allowed me to shadow at a globally known company, Rockwell Automation. Rockwell Automation also has its own summer internship program that sets up a career pathway for students post-college. Because of the positive impact that I had in the workplace at Rockwell, the Rockwell Internship mentors want me to come back this summer as a Rockwell Employee. I also believe that my extracurricular activities in high school (including the PEEKE internship) helped me get accepted into my top college, The Ohio State University. This also allowed me to be granted the Morrill Excellence Scholarship at The Ohio State University, which covers the full cost of tuition. So thank you, PEEKE, for allowing me to expand my opportunities, dream bigger, and achieve more than I ever thought I could as a high school student.

For future PEEKE interns, my advice to you is to find your passion and do whatever it takes to use that passion to achieve something greater. Connect yourselves with anyone who may be able to guide you in the direction of your dreams. Allow yourselves to expand and try new things. One of my favorite quotes that I try to live by is "Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon" - Paul Brandt. So continue to strive for greatness. Becoming a member of Y.O.U is a great start. As a future Astronaut, Teacher, Engineer, Cosmetologist, or Doctor, dream bigger and continue to master your art.”
