This week Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) participants from Cleveland Metropolitan Schools participated in mock interviews. Experienced professionals from various companies volunteered and conducted these interviews to prepare our participants for real interview encounters.

Brandon Huff, a senior at John Adams High School participated in three mock interviews. While he was nervous at the onset, he finished self-assured and optimistic. “I didn’t know what to expect, but I learned a lot. It gave me knowledge on how to ask better questions,” said Brandon.

“I sat in on some of Brandon’s interview. He was nervous at first, but with each interview, he became more comfortable. That’s what we want to do with these,” said the organizer of the mock interview sessions, Y.O.U. Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Palmer. Mock interviews assist students with thoughtful exploration of their experiences and help give them the confidence they need to engage during their first real interview.

“If I had an interview today, I think I would be prepared,” said Brandon. He plans to study at Cuyahoga Community College post-high school graduation. “Today was good. I’m happy I was able to be apart of this,” he added. Mock Interviews are offered to high school JOG participants and young adults in our training courses. Our goal to ensure that each participant continues on a path to economic self-sufficiency through small activities, such as mock interviews.
