Please check the descriptions below to make sure your grade and location qualifies for the program you are applying for. You must fill out the summer jobs application and the interest form. If you have already filled out the application at an earlier date, you still should complete the interest form. You do not need to fill out the application more than once.
Step 1: Fill out Academies Interest Form once the application season opens in December.
Step 2: Fill out the Summer Jobs Application once the application opens in February.
Exciting Summer Career Academies Await
Use your summer to learn more about a career field of interest by participating in one of our many Summer Career Academies, and be paid for career exploration. General eligibility requirements are listed below and there are additional screening steps for all the Summer Career Academies. If you meet basic eligibility requirements, you will be contacted by Y.O.U. or one of our Community Partners for an interview and additional screening.
Construction: Building Great Futures
Open to rising 11th graders through 12th Graders who live in the City of Cleveland
During this 10 week program participants will work hands-on with construction experts with Habitat for Humanity to refurbish homes for families in need. Throughout the experience, you will learn important skills related to the construction field while meeting and learning from others working in the construction field to see if this is a career you want to pursue.
Construction: Next Generation
Open to rising 11th and 12th Graders who live in the City of Cleveland
During this 10 week program participants will work with the professional team at NextGeneration Construction to learn the crucial skills general contractors need on their staff to keep the business moving – skills like creating estimates and reading blueprints. You will have the opportunity to meet and learn from a wide array of professionals in the construction field to see if this is a career you want to pursue and build your own professional network.
Marketing Academy
Open to 10th through 12th graders who live in the City of Cleveland
This program is a 8 week, paid, hands-on learning experience in partnership with the City of Cleveland that helps students interested in writing, design, and entrepreneurship explore career paths related to these disciplines. Students will spend each week learning new skills, working on a self-guided marketing project, and hearing from community members to learn more about their work.
Manufacturing
Open to current 11th and 12th graders
This program is a 6 week, paid, hands-on learning experience in partnership with MAGNET that would help Cuyahoga County students interested in technology, problem-solving and STEM explore career paths related to manufacturing. Students will spend 4 days a week learning about how things get made in Northeast Ohio and what their role might be in the manufacturing industry. Our partner, MAGNET, will connect you with skills training that you’ll earn a certification for, and lead you through great hands on activities and field trips to businesses around Northeast Ohio to give you a feel for what Cleveland has to offer in this growing and ever-changing industry. Graduating seniors who want to pursue jobs with partner companies will be connected to those opportunities.
Municipal/Public Service in Richmond Heights
Open to rising 11th through 12th Graders who live in the City of Richmond Heights
This 10 week academy will spend the summer job exploring the many different careers in government public service including and the professional skills needed to successful in a public service careers. Participants will rotate through five city departments in the City of Richmond Heights: Fire, Police, Recreation, Mayor's Office, and Service Department.
Community Forestry/Urban Farming
Open to rising 10th through 12th Graders who live in the City of Cleveland
This is a program for students to gain exposure to careers in environmental sustainability or “green jobs.” Participants gain a comprehensive knowledge of urban forestry - planning, planting, establishment, and maintenance of trees in urban environments. This hands-on experience will involve participating in tree planting initiatives, understanding the planning process, and learning about ongoing tree maintenance. Participants will work closely with experienced professionals to acquire practical skills and best practices in urban forestry.
Financial Education and Management
Open to 16 to 19 year olds high school students
Young Money Mentors is a 12 week financial literacy program where students will learn positive financial habits and share them with fellow students in a peer-to-peer education model. Participants will complete learning modules and engage in discussions surrounding how to manage their own finances, save for the future, budget their money wisely, and manage their expectations, priorities, attitudes, and values when it comes to their money. Furthermore, participants will create resources such as social media posts and flyers to be shared with their peers, as well as give presentations on financial literacy to help encourage healthy financial habits amongst people in their generation.
