Student Success

On April 28th, 150 students from Youth Opportunity Unlimited’s (Y.O.U.’s) in-school and after-school programs participated in our annual Youth Career Olympics. outh Career Olympics is a 10-event competition that showcases our students job-readiness and job-seeking skills in an exciting competitive environment. Competitions include: Budgeting for Life, Community Service, Corporate Team Challenge, Decision Making, Employment Application Review, Employment Interview, Employment Skills Test, Program Cover Design, Public Speaking and Visual Display.

Volunteers

More than 60 business volunteers from 16 different area companies volunteered their time, treasure and talents to this year’s Youth Career Olympics, including coaches who visited schools and prepared students for the event, judges who evaluated students’ efforts during the competitions, and event volunteers who helped set up the event and register and guide guests.

Special thanks to Y.O.U. Board Members Kathy Pierce, Dave Krabill, and Sharon C. Reaves for chairing the event; the Cleveland Clinic for hosting at its beautiful Lyndhurst facility; WKYC News Anchor and Reporter Tiffany Tarpley, for emceeing the Victory Celebration; and Maxie Jackson III, Station Manager from 90.3 WCPN for delivering the keynote address!
